AI in Sports Betting: The Only Crash Course You Need
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has skyrocketed in popularity over the last year - we hear it in commercials and see it being used in betting products.

But what is it actually doing?
If you’ve ever asked yourself what AI actually is and how it’s making a betting tool or algorithm better, you're about to find out.
But first, we have some bets to lock in.
Community Cappers Lock In Their Weekly Picks
Last Week: 3-1 | +1.99u
Ausar Thompson Over 4.5 Rebounds [-150] ❌
Josh Hart Under 9.5 Rebounds [+110] ✅
Jonas Valanciunas Over 13.5 Points [-102] ✅
Kansas/Iowa State Under 147.5 [-110] ✅
2025 Record: 8-10 | -1.34u ⚖️
UNC are poor defensively, expecting their offense to roll & him to play a major part! 🏀
Yes, now they have Fox but that only means even better creation via PNRs, lobs, and transition opportunities for Victor as WSH's only defensive strength is Bilal Couliably at the POA, who will be glued to Fox.
This will be the first time Richaun Holmes will start and face a skilled center and that, to me, is a recipe for disaster.
Give me a buy-low on a spot that can produce a 30-ball in three quarters. 👨🔬
In those games, Okongwu averages 11.5 points per game so a 13.5 line is very generous especially against a capable defensive Orlando team at home.
Okongwu should be matched up against Goga who has been anchoring the Magic’s defense.
The Magic also play one of the slowest paces in the league and defend the transition well, an area where Okongwu gets loose for quick layups and dunks.
If Orlando can get the Hawks in the half court, they should be able to contain them and Okungwu because of their gritty on the ball defense that should cause Goga to play less drop and stay with Okungwu.
Let’s not forget the Hawks newcomers are still getting acclimated to the offense and they’re going to want theirs.
Overall, Orlando has defended centers pretty well this season and I expect that trend to continue.
GIVE US THE UNDER!

AI 101: Sports Betting Crash Course
Whether it’s an algorithm, chatbot, or whatever else, “AI” is the new hottest thing.
![](https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/24b468b4-795b-45fb-b24c-b2d7812c85f5/tweet-1733518012429308220.png?t=1739069115)
When you really get down to it, AI is just a term to represent machines mimicking human intelligence.
Instead of following strict instructions, it uses examples (pictures, words, numbers) to learn - just like humans do.
“Natural Language Processing” is how AI actually understands and processes human language. This is one of the many subset’s of AI.
So AI can take in words, understand them, and respond back based on experience.
Now, let’s combine it with sports betting.
Sports Betting + AI
When it comes to combining the two, it can get about as complex as you want.
Example Scenario
Having an AI algorithm seems to be the hottest thing in sports betting right now, so we’ll break it down.
Using Juice Reel’s “RoBo Jackson” as an example, here’s what is likely happening in the background.
![](https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/4f48a59c-4400-4a1a-8cdf-a9c2c49907fd/Screenshot_2025-02-08_at_10.04.58_PM.png?t=1739070305)
Data Collection: This program is likely storing data across sports, including historical game stats, odds/line movements, real-time news, etc.
Machine Learning/Predictive Modeling: After the system has data, it starts using it to forecast game outcomes.
Delivering Insights: Complex outputs get turned into actionable insights (value bets) in a nice interface.
This is a massively dumbed-down breakdown of proprietary software, but at the end of the day this is what’s behind RoBo Jackson.
Juice Reel likely could’ve produced a program/tool just like this before AI became mainstream, but using AI does make it more powerful.
The biggest benefit AI brings to sports bettors is processing more data, faster.
But with upside, there’s always risk.
The Negative of AI
AI is built by humans, who are biased whether we like it or not.
Because of that, every program or algorithm is going to inherent some of that bias.
It could be bias from the data that is added to the database, or even in the data that isn’t added.

If someone tells an AI program to take the Over every 7th time someone asks for a pick, it’s going to do that.
The Bottom Line
If you take only one thing away from this, let it be this.
AI in sports betting is a double-edged sword.
On one hand, it offers the power to process vast amounts of data at lightning speed, turning mountains of stats into potentially profitable insights.
But it’s not perfect.
The key is understanding that AI is a tool—an extraordinarily smart one—but not a crystal ball.
AI showcases the numbers; it's still the bettor's job to use them effectively.
