MVP Race Heats Up

The MVP race is reaching a fever pitch in the NBA, as Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are halfway through a two-game showdown this Sunday and tonight at 8:00pm ET.

  • Sunday’s Matchup: Thunder WIN 127-103

    • SGA: 40pts / 15-32 FG / 8 rebounds / 5 assists

    • Joker: 24pts / 10-23 FG / 13 rebounds / 9 assists

Jokic, the reigning MVP from Serbia, leads the league with an efficiency rating of 42.3 and remains a fan favorite on and off the court.

Canadian standout Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the current scoring leader at 32.8 points per game, has become the betting favorite to clinch his first MVP title.

This season continues the trend of international dominance in the NBA, with stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo & Luka Doncic consistently in the mix.

  • Gilgeous-Alexander MVP | -500

  • Nikola Jokic MVP | +450

  • Karl-Anthony Towns MVP | +25000

Overall Record: 14-14 | -0.71u ⚖️

I will say the big difference is going to be Middleton’s presence (ruled out tonight).

The Raps doubled him at times and Middleton also caught passes on the elbow which opened up a lot up off ball action.

  • Coulibaly is the most efficient when off the ball and driving to the rim for cuts and layups.

Now tonight Coulibaly will be without Smart and Middleton, two guys that open things up for the others but now Coulibaly will be back on the ball more.

Overall, the Wizards may go back to being a lot on the ball which have decimated them in the past.

Most of Coulibaly’ attempts come from Middleton’s passes so without that, I think we can get an under tonight especially with Poole around still getting his 20+ shots a game.

The Raptors length should also force Coulibaly into touch shots.

In games without Middleton’s and Smart while Poole’s active, Coulibaly only averages 10.3 points per game so 13.5 for plus money is nice value.

  • Hopefully we found the edge here!

Both those teams prioritize offense and Florida has proved against the best teams that they can keep up with anyone offensively, while also shutting it down on the defensive side.

Obviously meeting Auburn in the championship is most likely inevitable, but again they have shown that they can beat anyone in the country, highlighted by an away win at The Jungle.

Look for Walter Clayton Jr. to step up throughout the tournament as a leader on both ends of the floor.

I like the value in the Gators to hoist the SEC Championship trophy this upcoming Sunday.

  • 0.5u on this +300 mini-future!

Furman’s high-octane offense, averaging 77.4 PPG with PJay Smith's sharp three-point shooting (41.9%), sets the stage for big numbers.

Wofford’s efficient scoring (67th in DI) and strong rebounding add to the potential for a high-total game.

With both teams at full strength and recent matchups producing scores of 81-62 and 78-75, expect an open, fast-paced contest likely to go well past 137.5 points.

Edge Sports: Need to Know

*This is NOT an ad. There are NO affiliate links in this issue. I just love using this tool, and think you will too.

The sports betting space is evolving fast, and everyone seems to think they have the golden ticket.

Enter Edge Sports, an AI-powered betting tool designed to help you find value in the betting markets by identifying the best leans and lines available.

Side Note: I’ve had a few conversations with a the Founder of Edge Sports, and there are a LOT of great features and additions coming to the app this summer.

At the end of this breakdown, I’ll lay out the features that aren’t in the app, but coming this summer.

What Edge Sports Offers

You land on the “Home” page, where you can explore matchups across NBA, NCAAM, NFL, MLB, and NCAAF (for now).

There are 3 main features within the Home page: Games, Picks, and Players

Games

Daily match-ups provide bettors with insights into how each team and player is performing, and where you might want to focus your attention.

Rolling 30-day averages

Hot/Cold Tendencies

I personally like the simplicity here - I don’t have to comb through every player and every individual stat.

The app points out relevant trends, and ignores the rest.

Picks

This is a curated selection of the AI’s best bets of the day.

Again - the app isn’t flooding you with every possible bet; it filters out bets based on the data, and presents you with only the highest-value picks.

Picks Auto-Update on Completion

Picks generally start showing up for the day’s matchups at 12:00am EST, with ~7 picks per league each day.

Players

Similar to the 'Games' section, the app provides the highest-value Player Props for that day; with one key difference.

It includes the "projected line", giving bettors a deeper understanding of what the AI is expecting.

Streak

Each day, Edge Sports starts a new streak, doubling down until it loses.

Usually 2+ Leg around -120

Follow or fade the AI’s picks - I’ve seen a streak as high as 5 in the past couple of weeks.

This section has already had a few upgrades in that time, and it sounds like more historical and tracking stats around Streaks are coming.

Research

Compare fantasy projections and stats of NFL players, for fantasy and betting.

More sports coming soon…

I’ll admit, when I first played around this with this part of the app it felt out of place - It isn’t NFL season yet so there’s not a ton to do here right now.

But I definitely see the value for fantasy and betting during the season, and more leagues as they get added (MLB, NBA, etc.).

Report

The app dedicates a section to tracking performance on every bet it has given out.

NBA: Past Week

NCAAB: Past Month

Users can filter by league & time period, and see the last 9 graded picks.

Filter Last 9 Picks/Players

App Overall Performance

With new picks coming out daily this will always fluctuate slightly, but here’s a snapshot of the Edge Sports app performance as of 3/9/2025.

Not half bad

  • 4801 Wins / 277 Pushes / 2856 Losses

  • 63% Hit Rate

It’s important to note that most bettors probably won’t be tailing every bet the app gives out, which means the ROI and hit rate will be different from the app’s.

Locksmith Tails

I created my Edge Sports account 10 days ago, and have been tailing the majority of bets to see how I did.

Using 1 unit as the norm for most plays, I used Edge’s insights to make parlays, straight bets, ladders - Similar to how I’d bet on a regular basis.

Here are the results:

  • 68 bets placed

    • 36-29-3

    • 43 straight bets / 24 parlays / 1 PrizePicks Flex Friday Entry

  • ROI: 20.42%

  • Profit: +11.82u 📈

So close, yet so far. All Edge picks.

🆓 Free Tier

Edge Sports is completely free to use, and users can still get a lot of value without paying any money.

  • Full access to Hot & Cold trends

  • Limited access to games, picks, and player trends

  • No access to Streaks

  • One free fantasy comparison per day

💰 Pricing & Value

Edge Sports is priced to be more affordable than other betting tools out there, and you’ll get access to way more picks each and every day.

  • Day Pass ($2) – Perfect if you want to test the waters.

  • Monthly ($14.99) – Cheaper than many competitors/sports betting tools:

    • Outlier: $19.99/month

    • Pikkit Pro: $25/month

    • Rithmm: $29.99/month

    • OddsJam: ~$6/day (triple digits per month!)

A day pass isn’t something you usually see from sports betting tools, and can be a great way to gain some quick insights on days with lots of action.

How to Use Edge Sports

  • TAIL – Follow the AI in addition to your daily betting picks

  • FADE – If you trust your instincts over the algorithm, use it as a contrarian tool. Or as a way to hedge any biases you may have on a game.

  • VALIDATE – Cross-check your own leans with Edge’s insights.

  • General Research – With a variety of statistics available per league and individual, it’s a great way to get a snapshot of a team or player’s performance.

For me, this tool is a great way to verify my own betting leans and make smart bets on teams and individuals I don’t track as closely.

If I really like a bet and see that Edge is leaning that way too, I’ll add increase my wager.

Could’ve gotten 7.5 at - odds

2 small bets with + odds

If I really like a line and Edge leans the opposite way, I don’t bet it.

It’s already a staple in my betting folder, and I have a feeling it’ll be there for a while.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how the app performs over time, and especially during March Madness.

Upcoming Features

Things can change, and I’m sure there are more features coming than what’s listed below.

That said, here are the features that are in the works:

  • MLB and NBA coming to Research

  • Unit tracking on picks

  • Projections coming to other markets/leagues

  • Displaying odds (maybe live odds too 👀)

If you’re interested in giving it a try, you can download Edge Sports in the App Store here.

Selection Sunday

At the conclusion of the Big Ten Tournament, the committee will have everything it needs to set the bracket.

Onions.

The Selection Show starts at 6:00pm EST, with the First Four games tipping off on March 18-19.

MLB Opening Day

Opening Day is almost 2 weeks away.

But this year’s start is staggered across three dates, giving fans and bettors a sneak peek before the season gets into full swing.

The 2025 MLB season begins early on Tuesday, March 18, when the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Chicago Cubs at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

  • First pitch for both games: 3:10am PT / 5:10am CT / 6:10am ET

These two teams will meet again for a second game on Wednesday, March 19, at the same location.

Stateside, the majority of MLB teams will commence their season on Thursday, March 27.

The Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays will play their Opening Day game on Friday, March 28, at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa due to the Rays' temporary relocation following Hurricane Milton's impact on Tropicana Field.
