Sports Betting News
Just because we're in the winter season for sports betting doesn't mean the industry slows down.
Here’s what you might've missed:
FanDuel Applies to Enter Missouri Betting Market
Missouri will issue up to 14 online licenses (2 untethered), with the application window for untethered slots closing July 15, 2025 and operator selections announced on August 15, 2025.

FanDuel Sportsbook Available States (July 2025)
FanDuel has applied for one of Missouri's two untethered online sports-betting licenses, aiming to launch on December 1, 2025 once the state market opens.
If approved, FanDuel will offer its full suite (including esports betting on titles like League of Legends and Counter-Strike 2)
San Diego State's 'Sports Betting Institute'
SDSU’s new Institute on Sports Wagering and Gaming (ISWAG) will lead applied research, policy analysis, and academic–industry collaboration to shape responsible‐gaming
Three‐Pillar Focus
Research: Interdisciplinary studies on bettor behavior, regulation, responsible marketing, and player protection
Industry Engagement: Strategic partnerships with operators, leagues, tribes, and regulators
Education: Certificate programs, student research opportunities, and executive‐level training
Kalshi Launches College Football Markets

Well ahead of the August 23 season start, Kalshi launched 32 college football match-winner markets this week to sustain trading volume post-NBA and NHL playoffs.
Its earlier March Madness markets prompted cease-and-desist orders from seven states and, in New Jersey, briefs from 34 states plus 60+ tribal groups accusing Kalshi of unlicensed sports betting.
Leagues raise integrity alarms: The NFL has warned the CFTC that Kalshi’s single-game prediction contracts "mimic sports betting" without standard safeguards.
Enforcement and insider-trading risks: Although Kalshi bars "current and former players, coaches, and staff" from trading, its self-certification model, highlighted when a California governor candidate bet on himself, casts doubt on its ability to prevent insider exploitation.
